Team Dai-Gurren is the name taken by the human resistance force that fought against Lordgenome's Beastmen and later the Anti-Spirals. Originally called Team Gurren by Kamina, it was renamed Team Dai-Gurren after the group captured an enemy Gunmen fortress to use as their base of operations. The team was founded by Kamina and Simon, two teenagers from the subterranean village of Giha, after they reached the surface world and began inspiring other humans to steal their own Gunmen and join the cause. Their bond was forged in battle against the Beastmen and their leader Lordgenome, who forced mankind to live in isolated underground villages.
